HOUSTON, TX, June 25, 2021 – Cousins have a special bond, unlike any other relationship. In many families, your cousins are your first friends. In the debut children’s book, My First Best Cousin Friend by author Lynn Page, the best friend relationship of cousins Khay-La-La Bookie and Gabby-Goo, is explored just in time for National Cousins’ Day.
The new tour will use the children’s book as a conversation starter with children to discuss the dynamics of relationships that they have with family members, teachers, and friends their own age. These types of relationships can be challenging for young developing minds to navigate. My First Best Cousin Friend opens the floor for safe discussions about these meaningful relationships with cousins’ entertaining and exciting stories, Khay-La-La Bookie and Gabby-Goo as the backdrop. Cousins aren’t as biologically close as siblings, yet they still mean a lot to each other. And in My First Best Cousin Friend, the two spunky protagonists, Khay-La-La Bookie and Gabby-Goo, who grew up without siblings, know that cousins are extra special. They are the people you can confide in and have a great time with. Your cousins will look out for you, too, and they’ll be your lifelong best friends. This is what makes My First Best Cousin Friend so heart-warming!
The My First Best Cousin Friend: book tour will start on Monday, July 19, at the Mercer Botanic Gardens in Humble. The tour continues on Friday, July 23, at First Colony Library; Saturday, July 24, at the McGovern Stella Link Library and Griggs Young Library; and culminates at the African American Library at Gregory Elementary School on Saturday, July 24.
